Previously, the application deadline for the New gTLD (Brand TLD) Program 2026 was expected to be around the end of June 2026. However, according to the latest Applicant Guidebook released by ICANN on December 16, 2025, it has been revealed that the application window has been changed and extended, with the final deadline now set for August 12, 2026. This extension provides applicants with more ample time for preparation.
1. Confirmed New Application Schedule
The official schedule based on the latest guidebook is as follows:
- Application Window Opens: April 30, 2026, at 23:59 UTC
- Application Window Closes: August 12, 2026, at 23:59 UTC
- Total Duration: 105 days
2. Key Points to Note
While the application window has been extended to August, it is crucial to pay close attention to the following points:
No Late Submissions: The application system (TAMS) will not accept any submissions after the deadline. To account for unexpected system issues, it is essential to plan with a sufficient time buffer.
Early Submission Recommended: The Applicant Guidebook recommends that applicants complete the process "as early as possible" after the window opens to ensure a complete and error-free submission. Last-minute submissions are discouraged.
Strict Payment Deadline: The ICANN application fee must be received by ICANN within seven days of the application submission being completed and the invoice being issued. If payment is not confirmed within this timeframe, the application will be immediately canceled.
3. "Reveal Day" After the Application Window Closes
After the application window closes and initial administrative checks are completed, there will be a "Reveal Day," on which all applied-for strings are made public. This is currently scheduled for approximately nine weeks after the window closes (around mid-October 2026).
4. Conclusion
The extension of the deadline to August 12 allows for more strategic preparation, such as refining application content and considering Replacement Strings. However, to avoid potential issues with international wire transfers and system load, we strongly recommend proceeding with the original timeline of aiming for submission by the end of June. From a risk management perspective, this is the safest approach.
