Case Study: Visualizing Security to Deliver Peace of Mind — What is the BIMI Solution Adopted by The Yamagata Bank for Anti-Phishing?
BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) / VMC (Verified Mark Certificate): Protecting Customers from Spoofing and Enhancing Trust as a Financial Institution
The Yamagata Bank, Ltd. plays a vital role in supporting the regional economy within Yamagata Prefecture.
In response to the rise in phishing scams, the publication of cybersecurity guidelines by the Financial Services Agency, and changes to Google’s "Email Sender Guidelines," the bank prioritized strengthening its email security. Previously, the bank received inquiries from customers questioning the authenticity of its emails, highlighting the need for a "visual" way to demonstrate security and legitimacy.
The solution adopted was Brand-Logo Emails (BIMI), implemented alongside raising the DMARC policy to "reject." Through diligent analysis of DMARC reports, the bank successfully completed the implementation. By displaying its official logo in the inbox, The Yamagata Bank has enhanced its brand trust and established a safe and secure communication environment for its customers.
